Agility Arena
The Agility Arena is located in a small house on the North Eastern outskirts of Brimhaven. On your mini-map, the entrance will be denoted by the dungeon entrance icon (a red exclamation point). Before you can enter, you must speak to Cap'n Izzy No-Beard and pay him 200 coins. Once you've payed, you will be able to go down the ladder into the Arena. The arena has 25 platforms, 5 across and 5 long, you start on the North-Eastern most of the platforms and it has a ladder to leave the Arena. Each platform is separated by a trap or obstacle (note, most of the traps rely on agility to get past but one or two require judgment and timing). Also, the hardest obstacles and traps require an Agility level of 40. Try to get to level 40 before you start trying to accumulate tickets. All the platforms except the one you start on have a Ticket Dispenser.
The dispensers will only work if it has the flashing yellow arrow above it, when it is active you can tag it. Once you have tagged a pillar, the small lights in the upper-right corner of your screen will change from red to green. This means that the next dispenser you tag will give you a ticket. After 1 minute of being active, the arrow will change to a different dispenser, tag it and you'll get a ticket. You'll keep getting a ticket for every dispenser you tag as long as you don't miss one (when you miss one, the light will go back to red). When the active dispenser is off your minimap, its direction will be shown by a red arrow, once you're close enough the arrow will track the dispenser and it will turn yellow. Its usually best to take the most direct route because the traps take time to pass, even when you succeed.
The agility obstacles are fairly benign, they are the: Rope Swings, Tight Ropes, Monkey Bars, Ledges, Hand Holds, Logs, and Pillars you jump across. If you fail to pass an obstacle, you will fall off the platform and lose hit points. You must then enter the space under the platform and climb the rope you will find there, you'll then come out a one-way trap door in floor of the platform.
The basic traps are also fairly simple and mostly depend on agility and luck to pass. The Spinning Blades, Floor Spikes, and Falling Rocks are the basic traps in the arena, if you fail you'll be thrown back to the platform you started on, lose some health, and you'll have to try to pass the trap again. Other than those three, there is also the Dart Shooter trap. If the Darts hit you, you'll lose some health AND lose some agility, this trap also requires level 40 to pass so if you're in the low forties you should give up before you dip below 40 agility. If you succeed, you'll get a rather nifty scene of yourself dodging the darts as they fly over your head.
There are three unusual traps/obstacles in the arena. The Planks are like the other obstacles, but the difficulty you have in crossing them depends on their state. Over time, they decay and regenerate. Naturally, crossing the most solid looking one is the safest way to pass this obstacle.
The Giant Buzz-Saw trap requires timing, not repetition to pass. Every two and a half seconds or so, the saw blade will pop out a hole in the floor and hurt anyone standing over it. To get by, you'll have to change your speed to RUN and go as soon as possible. Naturally, if you're still over the saw when it emerges it will do damage. The good news is that it will push you to whichever platform you're closest too when you're hit. So if you don't quite make it, you'll at least get to the next platform.
Once you're ready to leave the Arena, head back to the North-Eastern platform and climb the ladder. To enter again, you'll have to pay Cap'n Izzy 200 more coins. Also in the hut with the Cap'n is Pirate Jackie the Fruit. No really, thats her name. Henceforth known as Jackie, she runs the ticket exchange. Talk to her to trade your tickets for something. You can buy Agility Experience for 1, 10, 25, 100, and 1000 tickets, presumably the more tickets you give the more Experience you get. You can also get the Herbs Toadflax (3 tickets) and Snapdragon (10 tickets). For 800 tickets, you can also get yourself a Pirate Hook, which is only available from Jackie.
| Experience Exchange Chart | ||
|---|---|---|
| Tickets | Experience | Per Ticket |
| 1 | 240 | 240 |
| 10 | 2480 | 248 |
| 25 | 6500 | 260 |
| 100 | 28000 | 280 |
| 1000 | 320000* | 320 |
Make sure to enter the arena with a load of food. You can let your hit points drift down pretty low without having to worry as long as you pay attention. One thing to remember is that if you're wearing the Ring of Life you'll be teleported out if your hits go down to 1/10th or less of your total hitpoints. Always run in the Arena, you'll have time to stand around and recharge. Finally, I'd really only recommend the Arena for those who are already over or very close to level 40 agility. It becomes more fun the higher leveled you are because you'll fail the traps less. Also, you might want to wear Prayer Equipment to use Rapid Restore if the darts hit you repeatedly, this gear is also light allowing you to run constantly without fear of running out of energy.
The Arena is dangerous, but a lot of fun. Enjoy yourself.
