Although this quest says you need a Cat, a Kitten will work just as well. If you use a kitten, make sure to carry it most of the time or bring food so it won't run away to hunt.

To start the Quest you need to get to Sophanem, make sure to bring your Kitten or Cat, which is to the farthest south in the desert. Go to Pollnivneach and head south along the river. Cross the bridge wehn you come to it. Head south until you reach the river. You'll find a small lake, head east from there and you'll find the Wanderer by her tent. The cat will hiss at the Wanderer when you talk to her, and she'll beg you to take the cat away. Ask her whats wrong with it, she'll tell you that if you put the cat away she'll tell you about a secret entrance into Sophanem.

You'll pick up the Cat and the Wanderer will tell you where the entrance is. However she wants a full waterskin and a tinderbox in exchange for telling you how to get through. Talk to her again and tell her you've got everything she wanted. She will tell you to look deeply into her eyes. You'll be hypnotized and walk into a cave. Suddenly you'll wake up inside Sophanem outside a pyramid. You'll get the sense that the nearby ghost is very angry with you and you'll have a Canopic jar in your inventory. No one in the town will talk to you because the ghost says you robbed his grave.

Talk to the Sphynx, ask her about what was going on in Sophanem and ask her about herself before asking for help. She'll tell you about a spirit called the "Devourer" that has been consuming humans. She'll also tell you that certain events and places could trigger your memory to help you understand what happened. Now touch the door to the pyramid door. This will make you enter a trance, you need to retrace you steps through the pyramid and get to the burial chamber that the Canopic jar came from.

The Pyramid is full of Mummies and traps. The first trap is the "Wall Crusher". It does 8 damage but its easy to avoid, just walk on the far side of the passage from them. When there is one right after another, get a close as you can to the one in front of you and then walk diagonally directly in front and away from the crusher. There are also several trap doors you need to avoid but can't be seen.

Run past the Mummy to another set of Wall Crushers, once you get past them run quickly through the passages and chambers until you get to a big pit in the floor. Don't hang around the Mummies because they can summon Scarab beetles that can poison you. Jump over the pit and head to the left, you need to open the door by solving the puzzle on the locking mechanism. Its a puzzle in the style of "Lights Out" and similar games. When you flip a tile, all the tiles around it flip over as well.

Once you solve the puzzle, try to go through the door. You'll wake out of your trance outside the Pyramid. Ask the Sphynx for help again, she'll give you some information if you can solve a riddle for her. If you answer incorrectly, she gets to keep your cat. The riddle is: "If a mother and father have six sons and each son has one sister, how many people are in the family?" The answer is 9, "each son has one sister" doesn't mean "one sister per son". Answer correctly and the Sphynx will tell you to go see the new High-Priest, she'll also give you a token so that the priest will talk to you.

The priest will tell you that removing the Canopic Jar has angered the spirit of the old high-priest. The jar has to be returned so that the various plagues can be lifted. Examine the jar and see what is shaped like and what is in it. Your pet cat can open the Pyramid door for you so that you can return the jar. Go back to where you started and try to open the door, your cat will Meow at it it and you'll be able to go in. You need to navigate the pyramid just like you did in the dream-sequence. Except when you unlock the door this time you'll have a vision of yourself going in earlier. Take the jar that matches the one you had in your inventory and you'll be attacked by a level 75 guardian. Defeat it and leave the chamber to wake up from your dream.

Now that you're out of the dream, go into the room and drop the jar with the others. Leave the Pyramid and talk to the high-priest. You also need to help perform some rituals to appease the spirit of former high-priest. Talk to the Embalmer (to the south) and Carpenter (to the east). The Carpenter just needs a set of Willow Logs (though it will take him a little while to make the symbol you need), but the Embalmer needs salt from the salty lake north of Sophanem, sap from an evergreen tree, and some linen from the linen merchant north of the Carpenter.

You can buy the linen for 30 coins, its very straightforward. For the salt you need to leave Sophanem, you can leave through a crack in the wall behind the Linen shop. Now go west to the lake and scoop up some salty water in a bucket. Go back into Sophanem and use the salt-water with the pedestal surrounded by mirrors south of the Carpenter. Search the pedestal and scrape out the salt. You'll also need to find one of the Evergreen trees dotted around RuneScape. Use a knife with one while you have an empty bucket in your inventory and you'll fill it with sap. Take everything to the Embalmer. He'll tell the high-priest he's ready.

Go back to the carpenter and ask for the symbol. He'll give it to you and tell you that the high-priest has gone to the pyramid to start the ceremony. You need to go to the ceremony room to give the symbol to him. Once again, go through the Pyramid. When you try to jump over the pit you'll have another flashback. You'll have an an unholy symbol of the Devourer in your inventory. Use it on one of the sarcophaguses in the chamber and leave to end the sequence. The symbol will let the Devourer stop the ceremony.

Jump over the pit (I needed 30% energy and took off my rune plate and legs to get over) and go to the right this time. You'll see the priests in the chamber, go in and you'll start the final battle. The Devourer will appear and hypnotize one of the priests. He uses magic so you might want to use magic protection or ranged armor. Defeat him and the priests will finish the ceremony.

You'll have a final dream-sequence in which you encounter Icthlarin, the dog-god. He'll break your hypnosis just as you're leaving the pyramid, which is why you wake up outside with the Canopic jar at the beginning of the quest. Leave the pyramid again and talk to the High-Priest. The Devourer has tricked another adventurer into stealing a jar from the Pyramid so the plagues can't be lifted. You have, however, done your part and he'll give you your reward.
