Notes: There is nothing solely difficult about this quest. The "intermediate" rating comes only from the prerequisite quests. Furthermore, there is no combat whatsoever during this quest. It is advised to travel as lightly as possible, as you will have to do quite a bit of walking.

To start the quest, go to Rellekka. Head North-Northwest to the market, and continue to the sailor. Speak to him and ask to board the longboat. You will be taken to Miscellania. Head due West, passing a forest of Maple trees and a garden of herbs. Head into the castle and go to the second level. Attempt to pass through the throne room doors. If you have completed the Hero's Quest, the guard will let you through. Speak to King Vargas, and he will tell you his woes. He's been trapped in a behemoth form, and cannot adequately rule his kingdom. He is looking for someone to take his place. Being the bold adventurer you are, suggest that you could do it. He calls for you to complete two tasks: To negotiate peace between Miscellania and Etceteria, and to marry into the royal family. First speak to Adviser Ghrim. Speak to him regarding the various members of the royal family.

Love and Marriage:
The first task is to marry into the royal family. This section varies depending upon your character's gender. Females, read on; males, skip down to the appropriate part.

For females:
Speak to Advisor Ghrim if you have not already done so. Ask him about marrying into the family, and about the prince. Find out he is a practicing bard, and that he has a sweet tooth. If you do not have a posy of flowers, leave the castle. Wandering along the stalls is a flower girl. Buy a posy from her for 15 coins. Speak to the prince, agreeing with everything he says. Give him the posy of flowers. Continue the conversation, agreeing with all he says once more. Then use the "clap" emote to applaud his talents as a bard. He will be delighted, and continue speaking with you. Give the Prince a cake, indulging his sweet tooth, then continue talking to him. Finally, blow the prince a kiss (use the "blow kiss" emote). Give him the engagement ring to ensure yourself a spot in the royal family.

For males:
Speak to Advisor Ghrim about marrying into the family, and about Princess Astrid. Learn that she is a wonderful archer. Speak to the princess, and give her a posy of flowers. (If you do not have any, leave the castle and buy them from the flower girl just outside for 15gp.) Continue speaking with Princess Astrid. Agree with her on all points, how strong archers are; lament with her that she cannot go hunting as often as she wishes. Give her a bow. She will accept it gratefully, warming to you a bit. Continue talking to her until there is nothing more to say. Then use the "blow kiss" emote, and give her the engagement ring.

Peace Between the Lands:
Now that you're a member of King Vargas' line, it's time to negotiate peace between Miscellania and Etceteria. Head East-Northeast beyond the Maple forest, crossing a bridge. Head into the castle of Etceteria where Queen Sigrid rules. Go upstairs to speak to her. She is willing to negotiate peace with Miscellania, so long as King Vargas acknowledges Etceteria as a sovereign kingdom. Head back to King Vargas to deliver the news. He has no problem with acknowledging Etceteria, so long as they change their national anthem. He finds it quite insulting to Miscellania.

Speak with Queen Sigrid, who agrees on the provision that a new anthem is written. Recall that Adviser Ghrim says the prince has longed to be a bard. Speak to the Prince of Miscellania, and he will give you an awful anthem. Take the anthem back to Queen Sigrid, who rejects it. Speak to the advisor and he will correct the anthem. Return to Queen Sigrid and give her the good anthem. She will find it satisfactory, and give you a peace treaty. Now all that needs to be done is getting the king's signature.

Speak to King Vargas, who laments than an ordinary pen is too small for him to hold. Travel north of the Maple forest to Miscellania's smith. Request of him a giant pen. He will require an iron bar to make it. Give him the iron bar, and he will smith for you the giant pen. Use logs on the pen to complete it. Return to King Vargas; he will sign the treaty. Speak again to Queen Sigrid to complete the peace negotiations.

But all is not done yet! Speak to King Vargas to find that you must first gain the popular approval to be instilled as Queen or King of Miscellania. You will need a minimum 75% of the population to accept you as ruler before the ceremony may be commenced. Ask Adviser Ghrim how to accomplish this. He tells you that the king worked alongside his people when he could.

Gaining Public Support:
You here have four options available: Weeding an herb garden (level 35 herblore), cutting maple logs (level 45 woodcutting), harpooning tuna (level 35 fishing), and mining coal (level 30 mining). It is recommended that you spend about five minutes in each area, if possible. Leave the castle, and come across an herb garden. Speak to the gardener and buy an iron sickle for 15gp. Weed the herb gardens for five minutes or so. You may check on your approval if you wish, but it won't be high enough yet. Continue east a short distance to the Maple forest. Chop maple logs here for five minutes. Afterwards, head Southeast to the longboat. Speak with the fisherman and begin harpooning. After five minutes or so, head back North-Northwest to the smith. Just west of him is a coal mine. Speak with the miner, and proceed mining for five minutes. Return to Adviser Ghrim. If your approval rating is yet not high enough, go back to one of the activities. Note: At 100% approval, you will not be able to work anymore. The peasants will thank you for your efforts.

Once you have gained the popular support necessary, speak with King Vargas to begin the ceremony. You will be made Sovereign of Miscellania. Quest complete!

Ruling Your Kingdom:
Once you have finished the quest, you will be able to rule Miscellania. Speak with Adviser Ghrim to get a quick tutorial and his book, "Managing Thine Kingdom for Noobes". Here is how the system works: There are four resources available to you as ruler - Herbs, Maple logs, Tuna and Swordfish, and Coal. You may allot the workforce among these resources as you see fit. Of course, spreading them out yields less of one resource, but a greater variety, and pooling all of the workforce into one resource will yield none but that. You may deposit money in the coffers - up to 5 million GP - to pay the subjects for working. One tenth of the money in the coffers, with a maximum of 50,000gp, will be paid per day. You need only keep 550k in the coffers at all times to receive the maximum number of resources. It is also recommended that you work from time to time in the fields, so as to keep your approval rating high. Note that stealing from the stalls and killing the guards of Miscellania will lower your approval rating.
